  • Who else has watched Yuri on Ice? (plot spoilers)

It's a very popular anime right now, and I was persuaded into watching it by some friends. I've heard people say that it has developed LGBT storylines in some way, but I'm unconvinced. The two main characters do interact in a way that's like a couple, and love is talked about a lot, but it's never explicitly stated that they're in a relationship. To be fair, there is no overreacting from other characters when there's hugging and kissing, but is that in itself a step forward? I suppose the fact that the main story isn't about the main character having a sexual identity crisis is pretty novel for an anime... Any thoughts anyone?

I think its a matter of reading between the lines. For me, their feelings towards each other is rather obvious. What I find admirable in Yuri!!! on Ice is that it was able to actually depict how normal an LGBT relationship is. I mean, they are two matured human beings (one is 27, the other is around 23 years old), of course they wouldn't freak out on simple things or at least it won't be that apparent. I also think Victor knew what he is as a person, and I like how he didn't rush Yuri (in my standards) in deciding his and he just let everything play out the way it supposed to be. Besides, on of the reason why they didn't show other scenes is because of Japanese censorship, YOI isn't categorize as yaoi so it has a lot of limitation. In my case, I appreciate having an anime that represents LGBT relationship without any rape scenes. Hopefully you appreciate YOI despite not being persuaded about their relationship. It focuses more in their competitions after all.

I do enjoy the emotional maturity that many anime show, and it was great to see that being brought in with an LGBT storyline. Thank you for the extra information, tsubaki nakajima! I didn't realise about the categorisation.
