Sakurahime Yes, Pontegi is silk worms.
I really don`t like insects and worms. normaly I am screaming when I saw insects.
So, It`s kind of surprising I could eat them.

Because of local people eat them with smile and said tasty attracted me to try.

I also ate grass hoppers when I was a child.
It looks terrible, but taste is ok, good with rice, but I don`t think I want to try again.
I didn`t like them very much, but my parents was eating grass hoppers when I was a child in front of me, so I just try them copy.

    the photo looks like horror!!

Ah, yes, Adam Bouchard! Can any description really do justice to that smell? I heard a great one, once, but I sadly no longer remember it. The best I can do is to say that it looks like white, stringy pond weed, and the smell is worse than the smell of any smelly cheese that you've ever had the misfortune to encounter in your entire life. Is that fair?
And minervasirius, I wouldn't be surprised if nothing got rid of the smell. I can't imagine that frying it would improve it in any way. Just leave it in its sealed packaging and buy something more appetizing!

I'm with the "try it anyway" group. I've tried all kinds of stuff, like wasabi, but I think you can only get natto in Japan. I'll try it one day.
