I don't know about anyone else, but food is a big draw for me in terms of visiting Japan. And for a food lover, I've found that department store food halls are basically a place of pilgrimage. They are generally found in the basement, and are often clearly marked (which just shows how popular they are). Once down there, you can buy a wide variety of food - meals, snacks and desserts. I've been to ones which have a small supermarket in them, fancy fruit, bento (lunch boxes), onigiri (rice balls), patisserie, baked goods...the list goes on. I think the only drawbacks are that they can get crowded, and that they can be a bit pricier compared to other places. But if you want a treat, they are completely worth it!
That's just my opinion, though. Have you been to any food halls and what did you think? Are they worth going to?
