  • Phone on Silent on the Bullet train?

hi, when travelling on the bullet train I was told that you should put your mobile on silent mode and if you answer a call, to go to the space between carriages before talking. Seems a bit extreme to me, is it true?

Yes its true, the only mobiles you will hear ringing, and people talking into their cellphones in the main carriage are from foreigners. It makes me cringe as a traveller in Japan when it happens, but probably in most cases for first time visitors they are not aware of this custom

In Japan, it`s common sense not talking on the phone on the bus, on the train, and subway as well.
When I take a train, every single time, there is announcement
` please set up your mobile phone to silent mode, and don`t disturb other customers.`
As long as you are not talking on the phone, you can send a message, do internet, etc.
Actually I like this rules, because everyone can be comfortable.
Also, you should turn off your mobile phone switch around priority seat area. Because some people have pace maker in their body, so mobile phone electricity might affect it.
When you are in Rome do as the romans do!! HAHA
