I've been reading up on the last Games in Tokyo, because I read that Tokyo is going to be the first Asian city to hold the Games twice, and the environmental legacy was mentioned. Japan hasn't always had a good environmental record, with pollution of various kinds being quite a problem back in the day, but they are really conscious of it now.
In the last Games, there was some environmental damage done, I think related to construction. This time, the organizers are planning to use about 50% or so existing venues (some of which are very nice, like the Budokan). And combined with Japan's rules about recycling/rubbish disposal, it's sounds like they're really trying to make less impact of the environment this time.
Has anyone heard any more news about this? Do you think that Japan can achieve a more sustainable Games this time around?
